BE 2015 Louise's Block

Block Exchange 2015 is off and running -- some of us are still trying to catch up! So, here goes. I'm posting these in the order they are in my bag (which yes, this is the first time I've opened it since BE in January …)

Lousie's block is up first:

She's chosen an unconventional log cabin. The center can be a four-patch, nine-patch, or anything we might find interesting.

Logs (1.5 inches wide) can be in anything except very light colors.

She'd like four blocks.

Beginning to sew BE blocks

I've started sewing my Block Exchange blocks for this year.  Here are some photos:

 I spy with my little eye - a tiger and a bear and a fox and a dalmation and a penguin and Sally in her car!  My contributions to Louise's I Spy quilt (they're in-the-mail to you, Louise).

 This block is actually for the Charm group's charity quilt, not Block Exchange, but I thought I'd post a photo of it anyway.  Carol Schon designed the pattern. I didn't have many plaids in my collection, but I tried to use "manly" fabrics for the pieces to go with the man-quilt theme. [Beth - this block is in-the-mail to you.]

  Daisy's floor tile block - I managed to sneak in a dog print in honor of Gracie. [Daisy - this one is in-the-mail to you.]

Cindy's block - pieced and uncut and in-the-mail to Cindy.  You may have noticed that I started with the easy blocks first!

I was also happy to receive my first BE block in the mail, too.  Thanks, Cindy!

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's quilts progress.

Three more blocks in the mail

I'm going into the home stretch to finish my Block Exchange blocks on time! Here are the three I mailed this week.

Eileen's modern quilt block - either for one of two quilts or for one humongous quilt!

Louise's kids quilt block. It was fun to get to use the penguin fabric that Jackie sent me in the mail from a fabric-buying trip she took with Jan.

Carol Schon's flying geese strips and a set of strips she is cutting up and reassembling. It will be fun to see what she does with this combination of geese and strips.

I've got one block left to sew this weekend: Terry's blue and white block. I'm glad to be finishing by sewing a block using my favorite blue colors.

Louise's block

This is Lousie's block. It's called Serendipity.

Here are the instructions she gave us:

Make 4 rail fence blocks 6.5 unfinished.

Top rail: medium fabric 2.5 by 6.5 inches

Middle rail: dark fabric 2.5 by 6.5 inches

Bottom rail: light fabric 2.5 by 6.5 inches

Stitch and press.

Cut 4 dark squares 5 inches each

Cut 4 light squares 5 inches each

Draw a diagonal line from bottom left to top right.

Place a dark square right sides together on the rail fence block matching raw edges on the right side. Sew on diagonal line.

Place a light square (rst) on a rail fence block matching raw edges on the top and left side. Sew on the diagonal line.

This will be a child's quilt,so the brighter the colors the better.
